For the average history professor, the Knights Templar has been portrayed as being an evil organization, thanks to a greedy French King who was so deeply in debt to the Templars, he succeeded in destroying them for his own personal gain. This video should destroy that myth. King Philip IV of France was the driving force behind the destruction of the Knights Templar, orchestrating mass arrests, torturing Templars into giving false confessions, and pressuring Pope Clement V to disband the order in 1312. Philip was motivated by his enormous debts to the Templars, a desire to seize their wealth and power, and to eliminate a rival independent organization.
